Fishing Blog

This blog has been created for people who like to fish, particularly those who enjoy inshore coastal fishing. It is for anyone who has questions, information , or opinions about tackle, techniques, where to fish, or preserving and enhancing the beautiful bays and estuaries of the Coastal United States.

Viejo Pescador the pseudonym for a guy who has been fishing the Texas Coast for 60 years. There was a day when I fished offshore as well as in bays and marshes, but an uncompromising spinal problem has, unfortunately, finished my days way out in open water. I still take to my Kayak and head for the marshes and back lakes of Matagorda Bay in search of redfish, speckled seatrout, and flounder. I occasionally take my 16 foot customized Boston whaler to jetties in search of big reds, sheepshead, and slashing, tearing spanish mackerel

I fish for fun, and I very much enjoy exchanging information with folks who share my obsession. Let's start a conversation.

  2. Just looking at the weather out. It's late October and finally cooling off. Best time of the wear to fish. I'm going to try to get down this week-end. The only negative is that the ask of rainfall has left the backwaters of the Matagorday Bay and surrounding areas very saline. A freshwater inflow helps. Fishing so far this year has been a little subpar. But, hey, this is the time to go and enjoy the spectacular weather, the birds, and all the other bay and marsh critters.

  4. Went down to Matagorda Bay on November,5 th and fished Powderhorn Lake, a small saltwater bay emtying into Matagorda Bay on the central Texas coast. Early fishing was sparse. Got one good flounder. Paddled out on a flat looking for an entrance to a piece of marsh I hadn't explored before and ran int a herd of redfish. Caught about 10 including 4 over 20 inches. The action was bonkers for about an hour. It was a long paddle but great excitement.
